PM Reviews Fertilizer Provision Strategies to Enhance Food Security

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Monday, September 8, 2025, to follow up on the executive measures to provide fertilizers in the markets and the efforts made to govern their trading system. The meeting was attended by several key ministers and officials, including Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, and Engineer Mohamed Salah El-Din, Minister of State for Military Production.According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister confirmed the state's commitment to providing agricultural production requirements, emphasizing fertilizers as a fundamental pillar for increasing productivity and enhancing food security. Dr. Madbouly highlighted the state's efforts to attract more investments into the agricultural fertilizer industry in Egypt, aiming to increase production volumes to meet local needs and positively impact agricultural productivity rates.Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated th at the meeting reviewed the efforts by various ministries and relevant authorities to advance the agricultural fertilizer industry in Egypt, with a focus on achieving self-sufficiency and exporting surplus. Discussions also included modernizing the agricultural fertilizer trading system to ensure it reaches deserving farmers and prevents leakage to unintended recipients.In this context, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation explained efforts to provide fertilizers to farmers at the governorate level, supporting the agricultural sector and helping meet its basic needs. The minister confirmed ongoing operations to pump and distribute fertilizers to cover farmers' needs until the end of September, while facilitating disbursement procedures and monitoring availability in agricultural associations and outlets.The meeting emphasized the importance of governing the fertilizer distribution system, with the minister detailing a rigorous dispensing and monitoring system to ensure fair distribution and pr event manipulation. Continuous field monitoring is part of ensuring fertilizers reach the actual deserving farmers.Efforts to govern the fertilizer trading system, expand mechanization of services, and tighten control over trading operations from factories to farmers were stressed as ongoing necessities to secure food security and fair distribution.
