PM Madbouly Reviews Progress on Egypt’s National Economic Transformation Programme

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced that the government, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Egypt, is in the process of finalizing the National Economic Transformation Programme. This program is designed with a comprehensive vision that reflects Egypt's economic priorities for the foreseeable future.According to State Information Service Egypt, the program is being developed in accordance with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives. It aims to integrate economic, fiscal, monetary, and sectoral policies to create a significant impact on both citizens and the national economy. Madbouly emphasized the importance of the recent meeting, which focused on reviewing and verifying data from various ministries to finalize the programme's targets and prepare its final draft for submission to President Sisi prior to its official launch.The meeting was attended by several high-profile ministers, including Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Electricity and Renewable Energy Mi nister Mahmoud Esmat, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, and others. Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid Saleh also participated via videoconference. Madbouly noted that the government aims to establish an integrated framework for the next phase, which will focus on enhancing the Egyptian economy's capacity for sustainable growth, increasing productivity and competitiveness, and supporting job-creating sectors.The meeting began with a review of various economic performance indicators, highlighting the resilience of the Egyptian economy amidst regional and international challenges. Economic growth increased to 5.1% in fiscal year 2025/2026, up from 4.4% the previous year, surpassing expectations from major international institutions. This growth was driven by sectors such as industry and telecommunications. Additionally, monthly inflation decreased in August to 12.7%, compared to 13% in the same month the prior year.The government's objectives extend beyond achieving high growth rates to impl ementing a comprehensive economic transformation programme focused on competitiveness and the expansion of private investment in five key sectors: industry, agriculture and food processing, tourism, telecommunications and information technology, and energy security. The goal is to translate macroeconomic stability into sustainable growth that boosts exports and improves living standards across the country.Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom outlined the implementation status and proposed timeline for the programme. He noted that previous initiatives were reviewed, and consultations were held with relevant ministries and agencies regarding the new programme's pillars. Detailed data is currently being verified in coordination with various ministries, with the final version to be completed before submission to the political leadership.Rostom reported that 11 meetings with relevant ministers and over 34 technical meetings have been conducted to discuss reform measures and priorities across different sectors. These discussions addressed the current economic situation, key challenges, and the structure and productivity of the Egyptian economy. The methodology of the National Economic Transformation Programme is based on several pillars, including enhancing resilience, empowering a productive private sector, and improving quality of life.At the meeting's conclusion, Madbouly emphasized the importance of thorough data verification and review to finalize the programme and submit it to the president soon.
