PM Madbouly Inaugurates 1.2MW Solar Power Plant at Nasr Petroleum in Suez

Suez:Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inaugurated a 1.2-megawatt solar power plant at Nasr Petroleum Company during a tour of Suez Governorate. This project is part of Egypt’s broader initiative to expand renewable energy, enhance energy efficiency, and decrease carbon emissions.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly was briefed by Salah Mohamed, General Manager of Energy Conservation at Nasr Petroleum, about the plant. The solar power plant consists of 10 canopies installed in the company’s car park, utilizing available space to generate clean energy.

The project, with a capacity of 1.2 MW, is expected to lower the company’s annual electricity consumption from the national grid by 2,628 megawatt-hours. Rashad Nazim, Chairman of Nasr Petroleum, emphasized that the initiative supports the company’s modernization efforts, improves energy efficiency, and reduces dependency on traditional energy sources, ultimately cutting operational costs over time.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy is reflected in this project, aiming to expand solar power usage at oil and mining sites, as well as company administrative headquarters. This will help diminish the consumption of petroleum products and natural gas, reduce energy costs, and lower carbon emissions.

Nazim highlighted the petroleum sector's integrated plan to improve energy efficiency and expand low-emission solutions. This includes solar power projects, utilizing flare gas to generate electricity instead of burning it, and introducing energy-saving initiatives across its sites. Between July 2024 and September 2026, the sector implemented 36 solar power projects with a combined capacity of 5 MW, expected to save around 680,000 liters of diesel and 14 million cubic feet of gas annually. An additional 51 projects are in the pipeline.

Furthermore, the sector implemented 125 energy-saving and efficiency initiatives during the same period, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 768,000 tons. Preparations are underway for another 77 projects and initiatives to continue building on these results.
