Matrouh: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Sunday, August 9, 2026, inspected the redevelopment of Marsa Matrouh's Eastern Port, which is being expanded to serve fishing, tourism, and commercial activities. The inspection took place during Madbouly's tour of the Matrouh Governorate, where he visited and inaugurated several development and public service projects.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Matrouh Governor Mohamed el Zamlout stated that the port covers 8,000 square metres and currently has a 90-metre quay capable of accommodating 75 fishing boats and 55 yachts. The redevelopment aims to extend the port's quays to 700 metres, increasing capacity to 100 fishing boats and 100 yachts. Separate areas will be designated for fishing and tourism activities to enhance operations.

Plans for the port also include the construction of restaurants and cafes, a modern fish market, and upgraded workshops and maintenance facilities for boats. The project is designed to improve services for fishermen and visitors while boosting the economic and tourism potential of the waterfront area.

The port and its surrounding waterfront are popular attractions during the summer, and the redevelopment is part of broader efforts to enhance Marsa Matrouh's coastal facilities and support the local economy.
