PM: Gov’t Preparing Housing Options For Displaced Tenants Under New Rent Law

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli announced that the government is preparing housing alternatives for tenants affected by the new Rent Law, with solutions designed to accommodate different income levels.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during a meeting at the cabinet headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouli instructed officials to initiate a housing program for eligible tenants, ensuring that units are ready before the seven-year transition period concludes.

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sherif el Sherbiny, outlined the ministry's strategy to implement the rent law, which includes criteria for prioritizing housing applications. He revealed that the Social Housing Fund is set to launch an online platform within a month to receive applications from tenants over a three-month period.

The minister emphasized the objective of assessing housing needs and compiling a comprehensive list of applicants and the necessary housing units. Applications can be submitted either online or in paper form. Sherbiny assured that applications would undergo thorough reviews, with both digital and field checks to ensure eligibility. He also presented the available land and proposed housing units for the initiative.
