PM: Govt Keen on Providing All Necessary Resources Supporting Growth of Pharmaceutical Industry

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli asserted the government's ongoing commitment to promoting the local pharmaceutical industry, emphasizing the state's role in providing all essential support to accelerate its growth, foster development, and attract more foreign investment.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the remarks came during a governmental meeting held on Sunday to assess efforts to support the pharmaceutical sector in Egypt. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Ali el Ghamrawi, and Head of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Technology Management Hisham Steit.

Madbouli highlighted Egypt's long-standing legacy in the pharmaceutical field, noting that the country possesses a massive industrial infrastructure and maintains promising advantages that position it as both a substantial domestic market and a strategic gateway to neighboring and regional markets.

During the meeting, Ghamrawi presented a detailed report on the status of the pharmaceutical industry, including a review of market performance. The report showed that Egypt's pharmaceutical sector remained stable nationally, with notable growth in local drug sales during 2024 compared to 2023, and positive projections for further growth in 2025.

The report also included an assessment of therapeutic categories, confirming adequate coverage levels for key drug classes such as hormonal treatments, cardiovascular drugs, oncology medications, corticosteroids, and other essential and strategic medicines. It also included an update on the strategic inventory of pharmaceutical raw materials and information on the regulatory support provided by the Egyptian Drug Authority.
