PM Follows Up on Project to Construct Western Arch of General Omar Suleiman Axis

Alexandria: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly monitored the status of the implementation of the project to construct the western arch of General Omar Suleiman Axis in Alexandria Governorate during a meeting held on Monday, October 13, 2025.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was attended by Eng. Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Major General Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Authority for Reconstruction, Major General Moamen Said Mohamed, Assistant Head of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces for Roads Affairs, Eng. Amr Abbas, Deputy Head of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority for Organizational Affairs and Market Governance, and Eng. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Executive Deputy for Projects at the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly emphasized the importance of ensuring that the road network surrounding Alexandria Airport (formerly Borg El Arab) is of the highest standard, as part of the focus on airports as a key element in attracting tourism. He pointed out that the government is currently working to increase the number of incoming tourists from various target markets, especially in significant and attractive tourist destinations, foremost among them the New Alamein City and Alexandria Governorate, both of which are directly served by the airport.

Counselor Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the meeting reviewed the components of the project and the progress of work in various implementation sectors, addressing several challenges facing the project and ways to overcome them to complete the works. The Prime Minister directed the intensification of equipment and manpower at the project work sites, and the prompt coordination among various authorities to remove any obstacles, as well as setting a specific timeline for the completion of the works, ensuring that all responsible parties adhere to it, so that this important traffic axis contributes to achieving the desired goals of accommodating traffic and alleviating congestion in Alexandria Governorate.

During the meeting, Major General Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Authority for Reconstruction, presented a report on the ongoing steps to implement the project, explaining that the construction of the western arch of General Omar Suleiman Axis (the ring road) in Alexandria Governorate is being carried out in three sectors, including the implementation of a road 20 km long, comprising 6 traffic lanes in each direction, 4 overhead bridges, 2 bridges over the high-speed train, 5 surface bridges, and a vehicle tunnel, in addition to several other works.
