Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding cooperation and close coordination with the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in education and culture, describing both sectors as key pillars of the government's development agenda.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister made the remarks during a meeting on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO. Madbouly congratulated El-Enany on assuming the post, noting that his appointment reflected international recognition of Egyptian expertise and confidence in its ability to enhance UNESCO's role in protecting cultural and human heritage and improving education quality.

El-Enany expressed gratitude to the Egyptian state for its support, highlighting that his governmental experience had prepared him to manage the organization's extensive portfolio. He emphasized Egypt's significance as a partner in advancing UNESCO's agenda and commended the nation's efforts in promoting education, culture, and science.

Furthermore, El-Enany mentioned the potential for expanding joint projects in various areas, including technical education, teacher training, capacity building, and cooperation in digital media and artificial intelligence. He also pointed out opportunities for collaboration across Africa, in coordination with Egypt, through cultural and educational initiatives. These include sharing Egypt's experience with the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) to aid African countries in preserving cultural heritage, reviving traditional crafts, and enhancing vocational education for skilled workforce development.
