Planning Minister Engages with World Bank to Strengthen Strategic Cooperation

Cairo: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom engaged in talks with World Bank (WB) Regional Director for Infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa Almud Weitz on Sunday, May 17, 2026, to explore ways to enhance cooperation on mutual strategic files.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Rostom emphasized that the state is advancing a comprehensive development vision aimed at fostering sustainable growth, enhancing the investment climate, and increasing private sector participation. He highlighted the government's commitment to entrepreneurship for its pivotal role in driving innovation and creating sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.

Rostom further elaborated on the ministry's collaboration with relevant entities to develop an integrated system that supports innovation. This initiative includes streamlining procedures, improving access to financing, and advancing digital transformation to boost the Egyptian economy's competitiveness both regionally and internationally.

Addressing infrastructure projects, Rostom detailed the government's plan to implement an innovative financing model that integrates public resources, private sector investments, and foreign capital. This approach aims to facilitate more efficient and sustainable funding for major national projects, building on Egypt's recent advancements in energy, transport, and urban development.

Weitz reaffirmed the World Bank's dedication to supporting Egypt's development endeavors, commending the resilience of the Egyptian tourism sector amidst regional challenges. She noted that the bank is actively engaging in consultations with investors and the private sector to identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions that promote green and sustainable tourism in Egypt.
