Planning Minister and MSMEs Agency Chief Discuss Entrepreneurship Strategy


Cairo: Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom discussed with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) CEO Basel Rahmy ways to formulate an integrated roadmap to support entrepreneurship and remove obstacles facing startups.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the talks came during a meeting reflecting the state’s direction toward empowering innovation and promoting entrepreneurship, as outlined in a joint statement issued Friday. Rostom emphasized that coordination among all relevant entities is essential to ensure sustainable economic growth and create new job opportunities amid current challenges. He noted that entrepreneurship represents a key driver of economic expansion and employment generation.

Rostom stated that the government is focusing on creating a supportive environment for small and medium enterprises, facilitating financing processes and incentives, and encouraging innovation to turn promising ideas into successful businesses that enhance the n
ational economy. He highlighted the significant role of MSMEs in supporting the Egyptian economy through job creation, innovation promotion, and market stability, stressing the need to continue supporting the sector to address challenges and achieve sustainable development.

He added that particular focus is placed on energy and food security as key pillars of citizens’ welfare and economic stability, noting that state efforts aim to manage current challenges effectively while enhancing the resilience of SMEs and supporting long-term growth.

For his part, Rahmy affirmed MSMEDA’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Planning and Economic Development Ministry to help create a supportive environment for Egyptian entrepreneurs and owners of micro, small and medium enterprises, as well as those seeking to launch new projects. Rahmy also welcomed a partnership with the ministry to support startups and venture capital funds through the National Investment Bank and its affiliated companies, particularly
NI Capital, to help develop Egypt’s innovation ecosystem, attract new investments, and strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional entrepreneurship hub.
