Planning Minister and French Official Discuss Egypt’s Role in International Development Conference

Cairo: Egyptian Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Mashat engaged in discussions with William Roos, Assistant Secretary for Multilateral, Development and Trade Affairs at the French Ministry of the Economy, about Egypt's anticipated involvement in the fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), scheduled to be held in Seville, Spain.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the conversation took place during the closing session of the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the countries and the significant role TICAD9 plays in fostering relationships between Japan and African nations.

Minister Mashat emphasized the Egyptian government's efforts in development financing, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and fostering international cooperation with development partners. The dialogue also covered Egypt's participation in the Summit of the Future held in September 2024, especially regarding the Bridgetown Initiative, which advocates for reallocating Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) to assist vulnerable countries without incurring additional debt.

Both officials reviewed recommendations from the UN Secretary-General's Expert Committee on how developing countries can respond to the global debt crisis. They also discussed Egypt's role in launching the Borrowers Forum platform. Initiated in cooperation with a UN expert group, Spain, Zambia, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), this forum aims to enhance global dialogue on sustainable debt solutions.
