Cairo:PetroNefertiti, in collaboration with South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (GANOPE), has announced the successful drilling of the exploratory well Lurkan-6 in the North Gulf of Zeit concession at Jabal al-Zeit, Eastern Desert. Initial tests indicate production rates of 1,500 barrels of crude oil and 8 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated that this achievement is part of ongoing efforts to enhance exploration and development activities. The initiative aims to expand petroleum resources and increase domestic production through additional drilling operations, alongside investment partners and coordination with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and GANOPE.
The ministry highlighted that the exploration within PetroNefertiti's concession is supported by investments from Dana Petroleum and the Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), contributing to the ongoing assessment of the area's petroleum potential.
The Lurkan-6 well is set to join the production network following the completion of its testing program and necessary technical procedures. Efforts are also underway to update geological data and maps and analyze test results to identify opportunities for drilling additional wells, aiming to maximize petroleum potential and boost domestic production.
