Petroleum Ministry to Compensate Motorists for Substandard Fuel

Cairo: The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced a compensation plan for motorists who have been affected by the quality of gasoline. Those who lodged complaints through the government's hotline or the national complaints portal will receive compensation equivalent to the cost of replacing faulty fuel pumps, with a cap of 2,000 Egyptian pounds.According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry has stated that it will reach out to those who submitted complaints between May 4th and 10th, 2025. To qualify for the compensation, claimants must provide proof of vehicle ownership and an official invoice for the pump replacement.Between May 4th and 9th, a total of 870 complaints were filed, with the majority originating from Cairo, which accounted for 429 complaints, followed by Giza with 208, and other governorates. In response, a comprehensive analysis of 807 fuel samples was conducted across Egypt by teams from the petroleum and supply ministries, along with independent laboratorie s. Of these samples, 802 met national quality standards, while five were deemed non-compliant. The non-compliant samples were identified in Cairo, Qalyubia, Beni Suef, and Qena. The ministry decided to offer financial compensation after identifying some samples that did not meet national standards. The decision also considered the difficulty in determining the exact technical cause of fuel pump failures, which could be attributed to petrol quality, vehicle condition, or the age of the pump. The ministry expressed gratitude to citizens for their cooperation and reiterated its commitment to maintaining high-quality products for consumers.
