Cairo: Board Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) Sherif Helmy met with a Korean parliamentary delegation accompanied by officials from Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company (KHNP) at the authority's headquarters in Cairo to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Egypt and South Korea in the El-Dabaa project, marking 30 years of bilateral partnership between the two countries in the fields of energy and industry.

During the meeting, Helmy emphasized that the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is one of Egypt's most important national projects and currently the largest nuclear project in the world. He noted that cooperation with the Korean side represents a significant addition, given South Korea's extensive experience in building and operating nuclear power plants.

For his part, Cheol-Gyu Lee reaffirmed his country's full support for the project, praising the leadership of Helmy and the productive cooperation with KHNP, which possesses vast international experience in implementing nuclear energy projects, including the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the UAE and the nuclear project in the Czech Republic.

Helmy welcomed the Korean support, stressing that KHNP is a key and effective partner in ensuring the success of the El-Dabaa project. He noted that cooperation with the Korean side reflects mutual trust and a high level of expertise in the field of nuclear energy.

The meeting also discussed ongoing preparations for the upcoming ceremony marking the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for the first nuclear unit, scheduled to coincide with Egypt's Nuclear Energy Day on November 19 - a milestone event in the implementation of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project. Helmy welcomed the Korean delegation's participation in this major celebration.
