NFSA Chief and Danish Delegation Engage in Talks on Food Safety Cooperation

Cairo: Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) Tareq El-Houbi met with Economic Attaché at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Cairo Jens Jensen, along with Senior Advisor Gitte Pierager and Senior Advisor at the International Cooperation Department of the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Camilla Brasch. The meeting, held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, focused on enhancing institutional cooperation and exchanging technical expertise in food safety and regulatory oversight of the domestic market.According to State Information Service Egypt, both sides reviewed regulatory frameworks and practical experiences in Egypt and Denmark concerning market supervision. The discussions centered on mechanisms to ensure food safety across all stages of the supply chain, from production to distribution and consumption. Topics included risk-based inspection systems, facility classification according to risk levels, and routine monitoring and control programs.The meeting also addressed regulatory procedures for recalling non-compliant food products, risk management mechanisms, laboratory monitoring and control systems, sampling and analysis programs, and the integration of data to support decision-making. Training and capacity-building initiatives were another key topic, with an emphasis on the design and implementation of specialized programs for staff working in inspection, regulatory oversight, risk analysis, crisis management, and product recalls.The discussions highlighted opportunities for technical cooperation and knowledge transfer, aiming to develop legislation and align regulatory requirements with international standards to improve food supply chain efficiency and facilitate trade. Houbi emphasized the Authority's efforts to enhance regulatory oversight in the domestic market by adopting international best practices, strengthening preventive and risk management approaches, and expanding collaboration with international partners to achieve sustainable food security and protect p ublic health.The Danish Economic Attaché in Cairo commended the progress of Egypt's food safety system, reaffirming Denmark's commitment to supporting technical cooperation, training, capacity-building programs, and the exchange of expertise in areas of mutual interest.
