Cairo: More than 3,251,000 women have been examined through the ‘Maternal and Fetal Health Care’ initiative, launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This initiative is part of Egypt’s ‘100 Million Healthy Lives’ campaign, aimed at enhancing public health.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the initiative, spearheaded by Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, focuses on early detection of infections transmitted from mothers to fetuses, including hepatitis B and HIV. The initiative provides free treatment and healthcare to those affected.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, highlighted that the initiative also involves monitoring mothers and newborns for 42 days post-pregnancy to identify any risk factors. Dr. Fawzy Fathy, the executive director of the initiative, noted the importance of test confidentiality and examination accuracy, emphasizing the need for consent from the women involved.

The initiative is designed to be a sustainable part of the services offered by health units and maternity and childhood centers. It aims to improve the quality of routine services as part of ongoing efforts to enhance maternal and child healthcare.
