Minister Rostom Reviews 2028 Census Preparations

Cairo:Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom held a meeting with Akram el Gohary, head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), to assess the progress and implementation status of Egypt's 2028 General Census of Population, Housing, and Establishments.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, with senior officials from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and CAPMAS present. Rostom emphasized the importance of the population census as a critical source of data for the state's evidence-based policymaking and decision-making.

Rostom assured the ministry's commitment to providing the necessary logistical and institutional support to CAPMAS for accurate and comprehensive demographic, urban, and economic indicators across all governorates. He highlighted that the census results would be crucial for designing and directing significant national projects, including the presidential Decent Life (Hayah Karima) initiative, and for formulating national population and development strategies and housing policies.

Furthermore, Rostom noted that the databases generated from the census would help state agencies anticipate future needs in education, healthcare, and basic services for citizens.

Gohary confirmed the ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to complete early preparations for the census. He stressed the importance of this statistical cycle in forming integrated development strategies across various sectors.

The meeting also reviewed the procedures and stages required to secure financial and logistical resources and coordinate with relevant state bodies for the census's practical phases, set to commence in the second half of 2028. Additionally, the meeting underscored the use of digital systems and advanced technologies in data collection and analysis to ensure faster and more accurate results.
