Washington: The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation released a report outlining the recent activities of Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, during the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund held in Washington, USA, 2025. Dr. Al-Mashat, also Egypt's Governor at the World Bank, engaged in numerous meetings aimed at strengthening Egypt's economic ties and presenting recent developments in its economy.According to African Press Organization, throughout the week, Dr. Al-Mashat participated in significant international events, including the Intergovernmental Group24 on International Monetary Affairs and Development, the International Development Committee, and the African Caucus meeting with the World Bank President. The Minister also held bilateral meetings to advance Egypt's economic interests.Dr. Al-Mashat engaged in thorough discussions with Mr. Ajay Banga, Preside nt of the World Bank Group, and other officials from affiliated institutions like the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). A notable meeting with Mr. Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the IFC, focused on private sector financing.The Minister conducted a detailed session with the Jefferies Group and numerous international investors, shedding light on key developments and economic indicators in Egypt. She emphasized the outcomes of Egypt's economic and structural reform program initiated in March 2024.In a meeting with Ms. Elena Flores, Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission, Dr. Al-Mashat discussed the implementation of the second tranche of the Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA).Dr. Al-Mashat actively participated in several events organized by the World Bank Group, including a keynote session on "Jobs: The Pathway to Prosperity" and a panel discussion on "Investing in the Future: Mobilizing Finance for Jo bs and Skills in a Climate Transition," focusing on climate action's role in economic progress.The meetings also featured a special event on social protection, "Social Protection in the Middle East and North Africa Region: Lessons and Innovations to Protect People," where Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted Egypt's 10-year implementation of the social protection program "Takaful and Karama."Additionally, Dr. Al-Mashat met with H.E. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of Singapore, reinforcing the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and Singapore. This engagement underscores the ongoing collaboration between Egypt and the World Bank Group, which has been instrumental in financing crucial projects across various sectors, including social protection and infrastructure.
