Minister of Local Development and WFP Discuss Expansion of ‘Decent Life’ Initiative to Africa

Cairo: Minister of Local Development and Environment Dr. Manal Awad engaged in discussions with the World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director in Egypt about broadening collaboration under the 2023-2028 framework agreement. The dialogue centered on transferring Egypt's 'Decent Life Initiative' experience to various African countries.According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting evaluated ongoing joint projects, including EU-funded initiatives aimed at bolstering rural development, climate resilience, and food security in 120 villages across Assiut, Sohag, and Qena. These projects are conducted in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and relevant ministries.Dr. Awad emphasized the importance of ensuring sustainability and reinforcing local economic development teams. She also highlighted the necessity of expanding support for small and micro enterprises, especially those led by women and youth.The WFP reiterated its commitment to strengthening cooperation and showed interest in facilitating the South-South knowledge transfer of Egypt's Decent Life model to African nations.
