Labor Minister and ILO Review Joint Programs and Strategies

Cairo: The Minister of Labor, Mohamed Jibran, recently engaged in discussions with Eric Ouchlan, the Regional Director and Head of the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Cairo Office, at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting aimed to review progress on joint programs and enhance cooperation on key labor-sector priorities, with a particular focus on updates to the National Employment Strategy, efforts to enhance youth skills, and measures to improve the work environment across Egypt.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Jibran emphasized the need to expedite the completion of both the National Employment Strategy and the National Occupational Safety and Health Strategy, identifying them as essential components for advancing Egypt's labor system. He also shared insights from his recent visit to Geneva for the ILO Governing Body meetings, which facilitated strengthened technical cooperation in areas such as employment, vocational training, and workplace safety.

The minister mentioned that the ministry is in the process of finalizing the executive regulations of the new Labor Law to ensure effective implementation and provide stronger protection for workers and employers. He has instructed that the joint coordination committee between the ministry and the ILO meet monthly to monitor progress on ongoing programs and evaluate technical cooperation activities.

Eric Ouchlan acknowledged the positive developments within Egypt's labor sector and commended the ministry's efforts to promote decent work standards and improve inspection and safety mechanisms. He affirmed the ILO's readiness to continue providing technical support. Both parties agreed to maintain close coordination in the foreseeable future and to create joint work plans for initiatives related to employment, capacity-building, and improving workplace conditions, thereby supporting national efforts to expand job opportunities and enhance the overall performance of the labor market.
