IDSC Highlights Egypt’s Promising Opportunities in Battery Manufacturing Sector

Cairo: The Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) on Thursday 31/7/2025 affirmed the importance of "battery manufacturing" sector for Egypt, in light of strong potential to create job opportunities, enhance energy efficiency and attract investments.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the IDSC, in a report published Thursday, underscored that the "battery manufacturing" sector represents a significant opportunity for Egypt to address challenges posed by renewable energy, including intermittency. Batteries can store accumulated energy and provide continued energy supply when primary energy sources are unavailable, ensuring consistent access to power, the report read.

It added that the global electric vehicle battery market is expected to grow significantly, reaching approximately 82.90 billion dollars by 2032. Recycling metals from batteries play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, because they require much less energy compared to mining and processing materials, hence reducing the carbon footprint, the report stated.

Battery recycling also facilitates the recovery of valuable materials including lead, lithium, cobalt, and nickel, thus reducing the need for further mining, according to the report. The recycling processes of batteries can recover between 70-90 percent of the total weight of the battery, contributing to the preservation of natural resources, the report showed. It highlighted key benefits of developing the battery manufacturing industry in Egypt, including creating job opportunities, amid growing demand for lithium-ion batteries.

The global battery value chain is expected to create around 10 million jobs worldwide by 2030, according to a report issued by the World Economic Forum.

Also among crucial benefits of developing the batteries industry in Egypt entail boosting energy efficiency, reducing cost of production, and preserving the environment through reducing hazardous waste, preventing pollution, and conserving natural resources, the IDSC report added.
