Health Ministry: Over 16mn People Benefit from Early Cancer Detection Initiative

Cairo: The Ministry of Health and Population announced on Saturday 21/3/2026 that more than 16.9 million citizens have benefited from the presidential initiative for early detection of cancer tumors since its launch in June 2023 under the slogan '100 Million Healthy Lives'. The initiative provides free screening services for several types of cancer, including lung, prostate, colon, and cervical cancers, targeting citizens aged 18 and above.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the screening mechanism relies on an electronic questionnaire designed to assess risk factors and symptoms, said Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, adding that based on the results, suspected cases are referred for advanced diagnostic tests and appropriate treatment. He added that citizens are directed to primary healthcare units to complete the initial assessment or can access it through the official 'MOH Initiatives' website.

The system determines which type of cancer screening is appropriate for each individual, Abdel Ghaffar said, noting that suspected cases undergo further examinations, including imaging and laboratory tests, at hospitals participating in the initiative. For his part, Khaled Abdel Aziz, Executive Director of the Presidential Initiative for Early Detection and Treatment of Cancer, revealed that the program has successfully identified a number of early-stage cancer cases across various types, as well as cases involving the human papillomavirus (HPV).
