Berlin:Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar engaged in discussions with representatives from the German health economics research institute WifOR, aiming to enhance cooperation in healthcare. The talks, which took place on the sidelines of the World Health Summit, focused on leveraging economic and social studies to advance Egypt's national health strategy.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the session reviewed the latest developments in the collaboration between the Health Ministry, WifOR, and Roche. It also assessed progress in Egypt's Social Value of Health initiative.
The discussions addressed two studies examining the socioeconomic impact of treatments for breast cancer and diabetic retinopathy. These studies highlighted the significance of improving patient health outcomes and their societal benefits.
The meeting also explored the potential to broaden the scope of these studies to align with national health priorities. This would involve evaluating the impact of public health improvements on productivity, labor market participation, and human capital development, as well as the healthcare sector's role in economic and social progress.
Further topics included mechanisms for future cooperation, such as identifying shared health priorities, developing research methodologies, and ensuring that scientific evidence informs policy and healthcare decisions. The discussions also considered the development of a research framework to assess the implementation of national health priorities, emphasizing the importance of healthcare investment in enhancing quality of life and supporting sustainable development.
These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to utilize research in evaluating the broader impact of healthcare interventions, linking health service improvements to economic and social development indicators.
