Grand Mufti: Sanctity of Mecca Goes Beyond Political Conflicts

Cairo: Grand Mufti and Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide Nazir Mohamed Ayyad emphasized that the sanctity of Mecca transcends human conflicts and narrow political calculations, expressing regret over the attempt to target the holiest site in Islam.According to State Information Service Egypt, Ayyad highlighted Mecca's unique status as a sacred and revered city with a significant place in the faith and hearts of Muslims worldwide. His remarks came following a reported attempt to target Mecca, underscoring that the city is the qibla for Muslims and a place toward which their hearts turn. He noted that God has made Mecca a secure sanctuary.Ayyad stressed that the security of the holy city, the Two Holy Mosques, and their visitors is a responsibility that transcends political and geographical considerations. He called for respect for the sanctity of these sites and the safeguarding of their security, ensuring that neither the sites nor their visitors are exposed to d anger or terror.The Grand Mufti emphasized that holy sites should not become part of conflicts or be affected by confrontations. He noted that any attack on the holy city impacts not just a place but also the feelings of Muslims globally.In his appeal, Ayyad called for the preservation of Mecca's sanctity, urging that it be kept away from conflicts and political calculations. He prayed for the protection of the lands of the Two Holy Mosques from attacks, hoping for continued security, peace, and stability for the city, its people, and its visitors.
