Grand Mufti and Foreign Ministry Unite to Counter Extremism and Islamophobia

Cairo: Grand Mufti Nazir Ayyad affirmed the importance of Dar al-Ifta's cooperation with the Egyptian foreign ministry for promoting the moderate values of Islam, countering extremism and Islamophobia, and highlighting Egypt's role in advancing peace and peaceful coexistence. Ayyad, who doubles as Head of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with Assistant Foreign Minister for Cultural Relations Wael El-Naggar, to discuss bolstering cooperation and coordination between various state institutions.According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, Ayyad expressed appreciation for the ministry's efforts in promoting Egypt's international presence. Meanwhile, Naggar hailed the efforts of Dar al-Ifta and the General Secretariat, especially through the Salam Center for Extremism and Islamophobia Studies. He applauded the Center's research contributions in analyzing extremist phenomena and correcting misconceptions.Highlighting the importance of the international charters issued by the General Secretariat's conferences for combating hate speech, the diplomat also underscored the ministry's commitment to promoting these documents internationally to showcase Egypt's leading role in fostering cultural dialogue.
