Cairo: Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass confirmed that the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) showcases the modern face of Egypt, highlighting its interest in its ancient artifacts and the genius of the ancient Egyptians through the display of magnificent relics. He pointed out that the museum is a giant cultural institution, housing many museums within it.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in televised statements on Saturday, November 1, 2025, Hawass said that the Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest in the world, noting that "no museum in the world has received the level of global and international attention that the Grand Egyptian Museum has."
The Egyptian archaeologist added that the area of the Grand Egyptian Museum is larger than the Louvre Museum by about 130,000 cubic meters and larger than the Metropolitan Museum of Art by about 330,000 cubic meters, making it the largest museum in the world.
He pointed out that the most important displays in the museum are all the artifacts belonging to King Tutankhamun, also known as the "Golden Pharaoh." He explained that the whole world is eagerly waiting to see Tutankhamun's artifacts, especially those being displayed for the first time at the museum.
