Cairo: The tourism sector reached a milestone with the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum on November 1, 2025, in the presence of world leaders. The museum is the largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization.

According to State Information Service Egypt, by 2026, the museum had already become the world's most visited museum, welcoming over 6.5 million visitors in its first few months. This achievement aligns with the state's economic and social development plan for the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

An upgraded version of the online booking platform was launched in April 2026. This upgrade was designed to facilitate the tourist experience, ensure ticket security, and prevent manipulation. The updates included the full activation of interactive exhibition halls, powered by enhanced hologram technology, to showcase the treasures of the golden king Tutankhamun in an innovative way that meets international standards.

This initiative directly reflects the priorities outlined in the official document of the State's Economic and Social Development Plan for FY 2025/2026. Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Ahmed Rostom submitted the plan, targeted for completion in FY 2026/2027, which received approval from both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Placing tourism at its core, the document underscores the state's commitment to advancing archaeological and cultural tourism.
