Cairo: The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) Project and the strategic public relations team of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been honored with the 2025 JICA President's Award. This prestigious recognition marks the culmination of a collaborative journey that began with the signing of the Loan Agreement for the museum in 2006 and even earlier.According to State Information Service Egypt, the project has achieved numerous milestones over the years, including an international architectural competition, the relocation of the Ramses II statue, and the construction of the museum itself. Japan's involvement expanded beyond construction, with Japanese experts in conservation, archaeology, and museum management working alongside Egyptian conservators and curators. This collaboration involved training in conservation, artifact transportation, relocation, exhibition preparation, and ultimately leading to the museum's opening.Over nearly two decades, the project has navigated through political tra nsitions, the COVID-19 pandemic, and various unforeseen challenges and delays. The success of this endeavor is credited to the dedication of engineers, architects, conservators, curators, government counterparts, consultants, workers, JICA staff, national staff, and many others who contributed to the project's realization.The Grand Egyptian Museum stands as a symbol of Egypt's rich heritage and a testament to the long-term partnership, mutual trust, and shared commitment between Egypt and Japan.
