Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, on Monday, September 14, 2026.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized the critical need to support stability in Sudan and end the ongoing conflict to achieve a comprehensive political settlement that upholds Sudan's sovereignty and meets the aspirations of its people. The meeting focused on the developments of the Sudanese crisis, along with regional and international efforts to mitigate escalation and promote de-escalation.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's steadfast position in advocating for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, highlighting the necessity for Sudanese ownership in any political solution. Both parties underscored the significance of respecting Sudan's sovereignty, enhancing de-escalation efforts towards an inclusive settlement, facilitating humanitarian aid, and alleviating the hardships faced by the Sudanese people.

The UN envoy praised Egypt's contributions to Sudanese stability and its initiatives to resolve the crisis, reaffirming the UN's dedication to continued coordination with Cairo in efforts to conclude the conflict.
