Cairo: The National Food Safety Authority: reported that from May 2 to 8, a total of 3,812 food consignments, totaling 230,000 tons, were exported by 1,480 companies, covering around 760 different food products.According to State Information Service Egypt, the authority's 17th weekly report for 2026 highlighted that 39 types of fruits were exported, totaling 57,000 tons. Citrus led the fruit exports at 40,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 9,000 tons and mixed fruits at 8,000 tons. In the vegetable category, 48 types were exported, amounting to 36,000 tons. Potatoes topped the list at 9,000 tons, followed by sweet potatoes at 8,000 tons, and mixed vegetables at 5,000 tons.Italy emerged as the top importer of Egyptian food exports last week, with Saudi Arabia, Libya, the UK, and the Netherlands also featuring prominently among a total of 191 importing countries. Alexandria Port was the leading hub for exported consignments, managing 667 shipments, followed by Damietta with 545 and Safaga with 512.On t he import side, 1,632 food consignments totaling 340,000 tons were received by 768 companies. The imports covered essential commodities like wheat, soybeans, and broad beans. Russia was the top exporter to Egypt, followed by Ukraine, the USA, the UK, and India, among 80 exporting countries. Alexandria port received the highest number of incoming shipments with 485 consignments, while Cairo Airport and Port Said handled 336 and 207 consignments respectively.To ensure compliance with safety standards and boost international confidence in Egyptian products, the authority issued 1,250 export health certificates last week. Furthermore, 972 consignments were released under temporary supervision, and 420 were cleared through the fast-track system. In accordance with the decisions of the Grievance Committee, 41 consignment inspection reports were filed. Additionally, 94 import licenses were issued during the same period.
