FM Warns of Serious Repercussions of Continued Cycle of Violence, Widening Scope of Conflict in Middle East

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty warned of the serious repercussions of the continued cycle of violence and the widening scope of the conflict in the Middle East stressing the importance of joint regional and international efforts to de-escalate the situation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during a phone call held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, between the foreign minister and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and Russia regarding the rapidly evolving developments in the region and efforts aimed at reducing escalation and promoting calm, Abdelatty noted that the continued military escalation threatens regional and international peace and security.

The foreign minister stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international coordination to contain the conflict and prevent the region from sliding into further tension and instability. Abdelatty emphasized the need to prioritize de-escalation, diplomacy, and dialogue, and to act urgently to prevent the region from descending into broader confrontations whose negative repercussions could affect the security and stability of the entire region.

He also reiterated the need to combine efforts to prioritize political solutions and settle conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic means. During the call, the two ministers also discussed the draft resolution currently being presented to the United Nations Security Council regarding the rapidly evolving developments in the region.

On another note, they addressed developments in the Ukrainian crisis, as Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's consistent stand calling for continued political efforts aimed at reaching peaceful settlements to crises through dialogue and diplomatic means, in a way that preserves regional and international security and stability. The ministers also agreed on the importance of pressing ahead with regular consultation and coordination between the two countries in the coming period, in a way that would support de-escalation efforts and enhance regional and international security and stability.
