FM, Russian Presidential Aide Discuss Strategic Cooperation

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Monday, April 27, 2026, with Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on regional and international developments of mutual concern.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's pride in its strategic partnership with Russia and stressed the importance of advancing cooperation across various fields. He highlighted the implementation of outcomes from his recent visit to Moscow and underscored the need to elevate relations, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors.

The minister praised progress in joint strategic projects, notably the establishment of the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Dabaa nuclear power plant. He expressed Egypt's eagerness to attract further Russian investment, especially in priority sectors.

The two sides also reviewed regional developments, with Abdelatty outlining Egypt's intensive diplomatic efforts to contain escalation and support the U.S.-Iran negotiation track. He emphasized diplomacy as the best path to prevent the conflict from widening, citing its global economic repercussions, including rising energy and fertilizer prices, inflation, food costs, and disruptions to supply chains, trade, and tourism.

Patrushev conveyed his appreciation for meeting President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and lauded the close strategic ties between Egypt and Russia, affirming Moscow's commitment to expanding cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.
