FM Reiterates Egypt’s Commitment to Supporting Somalia

Doha: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm strategic commitment to supporting Somalia and promoting security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, saying this support is essential for development and for consolidating regional peace.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday, December 7, 2025, with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the sidelines of the Doha Forum. The two discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and advance their strategic partnership.

The minister highlighted Egypt's appreciation for the deep historical ties and strong relations it shares with Somalia, noting the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation. This is reflected in high-level visits and mutual efforts to expand economic, development, and investment cooperation.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's ongoing support for building Somali national capacities, particularly in areas such as counterterrorism, security stabilization, and strengthening state institutions to enable them to assert authority across all Somali territory.

The discussions also included a review of arrangements related to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's active contribution to efforts aimed at enhancing the Somali state's capabilities and helping it extend full sovereignty and achieve comprehensive stability.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued close coordination in support of security, stability, and development. They agreed to proceed with implementing joint cooperation programs under their strategic partnership.
