Addis ababa: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met with Mr. Fathallah Sijilmassi, Director-General of the African Union Commission, on the sidelines of the African Union Summit meetings on Friday, February 13. The meeting addressed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination with the Commission on various issues.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty commended the ongoing cooperation with the African Union Commission, expressing his aspiration to strengthen working relationships and coordination with the Director-General. This includes both his coordinating role within the Commission and coordination between the Commission and the various bodies and institutions of the Union.
Badr Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s support for efforts to develop the Union’s institutional performance, considering it an important step towards enhancing efficiency and improving human resource management within the continental system, thereby strengthening the Union’s effectiveness and responsiveness to the aspirations of the African people.
The Foreign Minister also expressed Egypt’s desire to benefit from the African Union Volunteer Program and to support the Commission with young, professionally qualified Egyptian personnel to contribute to the Union’s various activities, reflecting the keenness to engage positively in joint African action.
Dr. Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of maximizing the benefits of the African Union’s membership in the G20, which contributes to strengthening the continent’s voice within international economic platforms, advancing African development priorities, mobilizing the necessary funding for major projects, and promoting economic integration and investment in the African continent.
