FM Hails Japan’s Support for Grand Egyptian Museum, Emphasizes Strong Strategic Partnership

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has expressed gratitude for Japan's support for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), highlighting the robust partnership between Egypt and Japan and both nations' dedication to bolstering cultural collaboration.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty made these comments during a meeting with Kunimitsu Ayano, Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister's envoy, marking her first visit to Egypt since her appointment. He underscored Egypt's commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership with Japan, a relationship officially announced in 2023.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum gained from recent high-level engagements between the two countries, especially following the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Summit in August 2025, which saw the attendance of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister advocated for a strategic dialogue session to continue discussions on regional and international issues of common interest and to enhance bilateral cooperation across economic, industrial, and developmental spheres. He identified attracting Japanese investments to critical sectors in Egypt, such as infrastructure, as a top priority.

The meeting also addressed technology transfer and the localization of industries, alongside facilitating Japanese companies' exports to Africa, the Middle East, and Europe through preferential trade agreements. Abdelatty praised the recent improvement in Egypt's economic indicators and acknowledged the contributions of Japanese companies and bilateral agreements in renewable energy and technology sectors.

He extended an invitation to Japan to invest in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), emphasizing the zone's incentives and economic competitiveness. Additionally, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's initiatives in promoting regional stability and highlighted its crucial role as a partner for Japan in the Middle East.

Egypt is eager for Japan's active participation in the upcoming Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, which Egypt plans to host later in November.
