Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing it as one of the continent's most important integration projects.According to State Information Service Egypt, during a phone call on Thursday, June 11, 2026, with AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene, the foreign minister discussed ways to support economic and trade integration across Africa and boost intra-African trade. Abdelatty stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to remove obstacles hindering trade and investment flows among African countries. He noted that the agreement offers significant opportunities to expand intra-African commerce and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals and Africa's Agenda 2063.The talks also addressed prospects for strengthening cooperation between Egypt and the AfCFTA Secretariat. Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to suppo rt the continent's development agenda through its expertise in trade and development, as well as training and capacity-building programs offered to African countries to enhance economic integration and sustainable development.For his part, Mene praised Egypt's active role in advancing African economic integration, commending its contributions to implementing the agreement and promoting intra-African trade. He also voiced aspiration to continue close cooperation with Egypt in the coming period to support development and prosperity across member states.
