Davos: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty on Thursday, January 22, 2026 emphasized Egypt's ongoing efforts to defuse tensions in the region during discussions with international counterparts. Abdelatty engaged in phone calls with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean No«l Barrot and Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi to address the situation.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty also met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. During these discussions, the focus was on continuing initiatives aimed at de-escalation and building confidence among the involved parties. This approach seeks to create conditions for diplomatic solutions and the resumption of direct negotiations between Iran and the IAEA.
Abdelatty highlighted proposed steps designed to enhance mutual trust and foster an environment conducive to achieving regional security and stability. He stressed the importance of adhering to diplomatic channels and facilitating dialogue between the US and Iran. The goal remains to reach a comprehensive agreement on the nuclear issue that aligns with the interests of all involved parties, thereby contributing to regional peace and security.
