Port sudan: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris in Port Sudan on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, during his third visit to the city within a year. Abdelatty emphasized the strong ties between Egypt and Sudan and conveyed a message of support for Sudan amidst its current challenges. He reiterated Egypt's backing of Sudan's efforts to restore stability and security, highlighting the importance of Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and national institutions, especially its armed forces.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in trade and economic cooperation. Abdelatty expressed his support for the upcoming Egyptian-Sudanese Business Forum and the joint trade committee meeting in Cairo. He also mentioned the facilities Egypt provides for Sudanese nationals and expressed Cairo's willingness to assist with the voluntary return of Sudanese citizens once conditions improve.
On regional matters, both officials emphasized the unified stance of Egypt and Sudan as downstream Nile countries. They stressed the need for full respect of international law in the Eastern Nile Basin and rejected any unilateral actions on the Nile, highlighting the importance of coordination in protecting their shared water security.
