Electricity Minister Reviews Nuclear Technology in Russia

Cairo: Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat on Thursday, August 27, 2026, visited a facility operated by Rosatom specializing in the manufacture and assembly of small nuclear reactors: Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat's visit to Russia marks a significant step in Egypt's ongoing efforts to diversify its energy resources and ensure stable electricity supply.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the visit focused on exploring the latest technologies and industrial applications in the nuclear sector, alongside potential areas for cooperation between Egypt and Russia. The minister's agenda included a detailed briefing on the manufacturing and assembly processes of small reactor components and an evaluation of the associated safety systems and industrial capabilities of Rosatom.

One of the primary objectives of the visit was to investigate the possibility of technology transfer and the localization of industries related to small nuclear reactors in Egypt. Discussions also centered on enhancing the participation of Egyptian companies in the nuclear supply chains, which aligns with the broader goal of increasing local content and establishing a robust national industrial base specializing in advanced nuclear technologies.
