Electricity Minister Explores Energy Collaboration During China Visit

Shanghai: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat embarked on a significant field visit to the state-owned China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI) while attending the Shanghai Conference for Renewable Energy, Clean Energy Solutions, and Energy Transition in China.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during this visit, Minister Esmat engaged with the CSGI chairman and senior officials responsible for managing the electricity grid across China's southern provinces and cities. The discussions focused on potential collaboration in areas such as pumped-storage hydropower, energy storage station development, and designing an optimal energy mix to ensure grid stability and continuous supply. This is particularly relevant as reliance on renewable energy sources is expected to increase in the near future.

The visit featured a high-level meeting, also attended by Egypt's Ambassador to Beijing Khaled Nazmy, to explore how China and Egypt could work together in the energy sector. Esmat was briefed on CSGI's core operations, its advanced technologies, and its expertise in pumped-storage and energy storage facilities.

Additionally, Minister Esmat attended a presentation by the company's leadership team, which highlighted the crucial role of hydropower and energy storage in securing electricity networks. These networks are becoming increasingly dependent on variable renewable sources such as solar and wind energy, underscoring the importance of innovative solutions in energy management.
