Nizhny novgorod: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held a crucial meeting with Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev to discuss the progress of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and potential collaboration on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions centered on the construction timelines and target schedules for the El-Dabaa project. Both Egyptian and Russian teams are prioritizing coordination to ensure that safety and quality standards are upheld throughout the construction process. Esmat emphasized the strategic role of the El-Dabaa project in diversifying Egypt's energy portfolio, noting that the project is making steady progress.

Likhachev expressed Rosatom's commitment to completing the plant on schedule and highlighted the potential for broader cooperation, particularly in technology transfer and training Egyptian staff to operate nuclear facilities. This reflects Rosatom's dedication to fostering a robust partnership with Egypt.

In addition to discussions on the El-Dabaa plant, Esmat met with executives from a Rosatom subsidiary that specializes in SMR technology. The meeting focused on evaluating the application of SMRs in various sectors, including industrial use, remote areas, and future power grids. Esmat highlighted Egypt's interest in integrating SMRs into its long-term energy strategy, contingent upon economic and safety assessments.
