Electricity Minister Engages with China’s XD Group to Boost Local Manufacturing

Cairo: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat emphasized the ministry's focus on enhancing local manufacturing of components essential for the electrical system.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Esmat highlighted the state's strategy for industrial localization and the advancements made over the past decade to create a supportive investment environment for both local and foreign investors. During a meeting with the president of China's XD Group, Esmat discussed the comprehensive vision to support industry and localize technology.

The minister underscored the energy strategy aiming to increase renewable energy's share in the energy mix to over 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040. He elaborated on the ongoing executive plans and projects, which have generated significant demand for electrical equipment, particularly in renewable energy.

The meeting explored ways to enhance the partnership between XD Group and the electricity sector, aiming to increase investments and establish new production lines. Discussions focused on localizing electrical equipment production, technology transfer, increasing local content, and utilizing locally manufactured materials.

Further dialogue involved detailed plans for the Chinese company's expansion, including the establishment of new factories and production lines. The availability of land for these projects and the economic returns of utilizing owned assets were examined within the framework of the country's sustainable development plan and efforts to support the electrical grid and renewable energy use.
