Brussels: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, during his visit to Brussels, Belgium, for the inaugural Egypt-EU summit.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership between Egypt and the European Union, with President El-Sisi expressing appreciation for the supportive role of the European Parliament and Ms. Metsola.
The discussion highlighted the ongoing cooperation on issues of mutual interest and emphasized the acceleration of the strategic partnership's implementation between Egypt and the European Union. Enhancing the Egyptian-European parliamentary dialogue was also a focal point, serving as a communication bridge between the Mediterranean's two shores.
Ms. Metsola acknowledged Egypt's pivotal role in mediating an agreement to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, attributing its success to President El-Sisi's efforts. The President outlined Egypt's contributions to regional security, including hosting the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit with international participation.
Both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring humanitarian aid delivery, and providing medical care for the injured. Ms. Metsola reiterated the European Union's commitment to a two-state solution.
The meeting also explored Egypt's initiatives in addressing regional crises, aiming to preserve state sovereignty and stability. Ms. Metsola praised Egypt's role as a stabilizing force in the Middle East and the southern Mediterranean.
Illegal immigration was addressed, with commendation for Egypt's success in halting illegal immigration departures since 2016. The importance of European cooperation in providing job opportunities and facilitating education for Egyptian workers was emphasized.
President El-Sisi appreciated the European Parliament's support for the Palestinian cause, underscoring the need for joint efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement, provide aid, and rebuild Gaza. The upcoming Gaza Reconstruction and Recovery Conference in November 2025, hosted by Egypt, was also discussed.
