Egypt’s Foreign Minister Engages in Dialogue with Syrian Counterpart


Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Sheibani. Minister Al-Sheibani reviewed the overall political, economic, and security developments in Syria. Minister Abdelatty listened to his Syrian counterpart’s assessments regarding the expected consequences of lifting U.S. sanctions on Syrian society in the coming period. The conversation also addressed the repeated Israeli violations and transgressions against Syrian sovereignty.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s support for launching a comprehensive political process with purely Syrian national ownership, free from any foreign impositions or interference. He emphasized that such a process should preserve and promote the unity and stability of Syria and its people in all their components and segments, adopting an inclusive and comprehensive approach that encompasses all Syrian national forces.

He also reiterated Egypt’s f
irm rejection of the repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty and any infringement on the unity and territorial integrity of Syria. The two ministers also discussed ongoing efforts in combating terrorism. Abdelatty stressed the importance of Syria becoming a source of stability in the region.
