Cairo:The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has successfully delivered more than one million tons of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, coordinated through Egypt. This substantial effort is part of a comprehensive humanitarian response system involving about 75,000 volunteers, with over 2,000 working daily to support relief operations, according to Amal Emam, the Executive Director of ERC.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Emam explained that the ERC coordinates with Egyptian authorities and agencies at border crossings to facilitate aid deliveries. The organization also liaises with international and local organizations, demonstrating Egypt's longstanding role in supporting the Palestinian people.
The ERC, serving as the national mechanism for coordinating humanitarian assistance to Gaza since October 2023, works daily to assess needs in the enclave. This coordination is done in partnership with civil society organizations and international institutions, such as the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to ensure essential relief supplies are provided.
Emam highlighted the ERC's integrated logistics system, which is responsible for the preparation, packaging, and delivery of aid to Gaza. Over three years of sustained relief operations have seen a substantial portion of aid originating from and being prepared in Egypt. The ERC recently launched the 306th convoy under the "Zad Al-Ezza From Egypt to Gaza" initiative, continuing Egypt's support for essential supplies to Palestinians.
The convoys provide a range of vital items, including food, infant formula, medicines, field hospital equipment, personal hygiene products, shelter materials, and fuel for running essential facilities like hospitals and bakeries. The "Sanabel Al-Ataa" initiative, part of the Zad Al-Ezza convoys, is in its third week, focusing on the provision of flour and food supplies amidst ongoing humanitarian assistance deliveries from Egypt to Gaza.
Emam called on citizens interested in contributing to relief efforts to utilize the ERC's official communication channels, including its social media pages and 24-hour hotline, 15322, for donations and volunteering applications, facilitating public participation in humanitarian response efforts.
