Baku:Egyptian Red Crescent's latest aid convoy to the Gaza Strip carried over 2,850 tons of humanitarian assistance aimed at supporting Palestinians and addressing their basic needs as winter approaches. The convoy, part of the 'Zad Al-Ezza - From Egypt to Gaza' initiative, included 1,591 tons of food parcels and flour, 204 tons of medical supplies and relief materials, and 1,085 tons of fuel essential for operating hospitals and other facilities.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian Red Crescent has been actively providing Gaza residents with necessary winter supplies, which include over 2,100 blankets, 440 clothing items, and more than 1,188 tents for families affected by the ongoing conflict. The organization has maintained a presence at the border since the crisis began, with logistics centers prepared to facilitate the delivery of aid, which has exceeded one million tons, involving more than 75,000 volunteers.
The delivery of aid has faced significant challenges due to Israeli forces closing the crossings into Gaza on March 2, 2025, and subsequent military actions that have obstructed the entry of essential supplies. Despite these obstacles, aid deliveries resumed in May 2025 following a mechanism implemented by Israeli authorities and a US security company, though this mechanism faced opposition from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Efforts by mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, and the US, led to a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, allowing for some humanitarian relief and prisoner exchanges. The arrangement facilitated the reopening of the Rafah Border Crossing, enabling injured Palestinians to seek medical treatment in Egyptian hospitals.
