Baku:Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, participated in a significant meeting of African governors with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga. During the meeting, Abdelatty, speaking on behalf of the African Group, emphasized the need to strengthen regional economic integration to boost intra-African trade, spur investment, and create jobs. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by implementing concrete measures to enhance connectivity, facilitate cross-border trade and investment, and support economic development across the continent.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's appreciation for the World Bank Group's efforts in promoting job creation, stimulating private-sector investment, and encouraging regional integration. He underscored the importance of continuous support for African countries to maximize the potential of their markets and achieve sustainable growth.
The foreign minister also discussed the outcomes of the African El Alamein Forum, which centered on increasing intra-African trade and moving from commitments to practical implementation. Abdelatty stressed the necessity to translate agreements into actionable measures to deepen economic integration among African nations.
In this context, Abdelatty called for the World Bank Group's assistance in establishing a systematic mechanism to monitor and evaluate the implementation of commitments. Such a mechanism would track progress, address challenges, and focus on achieving tangible results, thereby supporting regional integration efforts.
