Cairo:The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has launched an online database to enhance pharmacovigilance, track drug safety, and monitor side effects, ensuring patient safety following the market release of medicines. EDA spokesperson Yassin Ragai announced this initiative on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ragai emphasized the importance of direct communication with citizens to identify any side effects or drug interactions associated with medications. The online database is designed to facilitate quicker and more efficient reporting of pharmaceutical products, enabling necessary adjustments to dosages or medications and allowing for direct patient contact to improve the pharmaceutical system's performance.
Ragai explained that the authority operates within a regulatory and supervisory framework to make informed decisions and assess potential drug-related factors through reassessments or regulatory improvements. He noted the comprehensive online database's role in supporting pharmacovigilance and monitoring side effects after medicine usage.
He urged citizens to obtain medicines safely through official sources and licensed pharmacies and report any violations or unverified information via the authority's website and various platforms. For reporting drug side effects, individuals must provide essential details such as the patient's name, health status, medication timing and dosage, and any underlying medical conditions for a thorough assessment.
The database launch highlights the importance of consulting official sources for information on medicines and pharmaceutical products. Citizens are advised to seek guidance from doctors or pharmacists on the safe use of medications and avoid relying on unverified information from social media.
