Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud stressed the importance of addressing existing regional security concerns, respecting the sovereignty of states, and avoiding the expansion of the conflict.

According to State Information Service Egypt, this dialogue occurred during a phone call between the two ministers on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two countries on bilateral relations and the latest regional developments. The ministers highlighted the depth and special nature of the fraternal and strategic ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, affirming their shared commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation across various fields.

The discussion included ways to promote institutional cooperation frameworks between the two nations, including preparations for the inaugural meeting of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council. This initiative aligns with directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as the upcoming session of the political consultation mechanism at the foreign-ministerial level.

The ministers also agreed on the importance of intensifying mutual visits and enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation. They emphasized the need to disregard reports circulated by certain media outlets and social media platforms concerning the close relations between the two brotherly countries.

Additionally, they exchanged views on rapidly unfolding regional developments, discussing intensive efforts by regional partners, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia, to de-escalate tensions in the region, contain the situation, and return to the diplomatic track within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran.

Furthermore, the ministers underscored the importance of ensuring the security, safety, and freedom of navigation in international waterways. They also discussed ways to further activate the efforts of the regional quartet comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Trkiye, and Pakistan to support de-escalation efforts, bolster security and stability in the region, and enhance cooperation among the four countries.
