Egyptian and Norwegian Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Developments

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Thursday discussed over the phone with his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, the latest regional developments. During their discussion, Abdelatty highlighted the progress in political and economic ties between Egypt and Norway.According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Norway in December 2024. He stressed the necessity of convening the next round of bilateral political consultations to implement the memorandum of understanding establishing a formal dialogue mechanism between the two nations.Regarding the situation in Gaza, the Egyptian foreign minister expressed appreciation for Norway's support of the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people. He informed minister Eide about Egypt's coordination with Qatar and the United States to expedite efforts toward a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Str ip.Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's preparations to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, planned to be held after a ceasefire is established with broad international participation. He cautioned against the deteriorating situation in the West Bank due to ongoing Israeli policies, urging the international community to address Israeli actions in both Gaza and the West Bank.The ministers reaffirmed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between Israel and Iran and stressed the need for diplomatic efforts to promote regional stability and de-escalation.
